The Broncos waive the veteran running back Melvin Gordon after a costly fumble

Melvin Gordon III The fifth fumble of the season on Sunday proved to be the costliest yet.

The Denver Broncos announced Monday that they waived the veteran running back just one day after he struggled to secure the ball in Raiders 2 yard line In the first half of Sunday’s overtime loss to Las Vegas.

Gordon got a first down just before halftime, but Raiders defensive end Max Crosby kicked the ball out of his arms near the goal line. Crosby then blocked the ensuing field goal attempt.

“I’m sick of it,” Gordon said after the game. via ESPN. “I kind of know what’s going to happen next at this point. I just launched myself in my feet. I’m a little salty because I was feeling so [Sunday]. It happened and I kind of knew I was going to have to find a way to get back into rhythm. I knew it was going to be tough. I tried to do a few spots here and there after that, but my share of opportunities kind of dwindled after that, and that’s my fault.”

Gordon has had two touchdown runs this season with five fumbles, two of which were losses. This led to a career high 26 fumbles, of which opponents recovered 18 times. No one in the NFL has had more fumbles or losses than Gordon over the past decade.
