Cliff Kingsbury admonishes the Cardinals after firing Sean Coogler for alleged harassment

In fact, it sucks when one of your coaches gets fired for allegedly groping a woman during a team trip to Mexico City.

The revelations from Cardinals coach Cliff Kingsbury came after offensive line coach and running game coordinator Sean Kugler was let go by Arizona earlier this week.

“It’s definitely not ideal for the team and focus,” Kingsbury said Wednesday, after the news broke, on the team’s website. “I wish it hadn’t happened, but it did and our team has done a great job adapting. Our people, after some numbers are down, the guys have to step up and answer the call.”

The Cardinals were decimated Monday in Mexico City, 38-10, with Arizona falling to a disappointing 4-7 of the season.

Kingsbury addressed Kugler’s situation with the team and was part of the “Hard Knocks” episode that aired Wednesday night.

“Obviously he was put on the coaching staff,” Kingsbury said. “So I want to apologize to the coaching staff. Unacceptable. We understand that. It won’t happen again. From this whole group, I’m going to ask two things going forward. Make sure you go forward, no one has to stand in front of the media and answer any questions about Dumb off field, one.

“The second, effort off the field. Everyone got me? No more going forward. We’ve got a great group, we’ve been handling our business all year. Let’s get this thing going in the right direction this week.”

Former head coach Steve Hayden takes on Coogler’s role, with assistant offensive line coach Brian Natkin also playing a role.

Running coach James Saxon resigned in August after pleading guilty to domestic batteries. His replacement, Don Shumpert, was out last month and Kingsbury said the team wanted to go in a “different direction”.

“This whole year has been a bit of a roller coaster,” said quarterback Kyler Murray. “It seemed like we were all in the news off the season and then the season, losing [cornerback Jeff Gladney, who died in the offseason] And coaches, it’s been up and down. But this group is resilient.”

Offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum said he spoke to Coogler, who was “devastated” by his firing.

“But at the same time, this is business and we’re professionals,” Beachum said. “We are called to do certain things and act in a certain way that I became an Arizona Cardinal. I don’t know any details of what happened, but what worries me right now are the guys here.”
