While Uruguay failed to live up to the pre-tournament hype in their first appearance at the 2022 World Cup, Brazil and Portugal looked as convincing as any team they have played to date. Here’s everything that happened at the World Cup today and what to watch tomorrow.

There have been goalless draws in the first round of group stage matches – four to be exact – but none as uneventful as Uruguay and South Korea. Neither team had a shot on goal. Both teams have points, which puts them in good stead for the last two group stage matches.

Cristiano Ronaldo managed to put Portugal ahead in their first match of the tournament and his teammates came back in favor, scoring two more goals and stopping a late comeback attempt from Ghana. Portugal are now top of the group, and if they play as consistently as they did on Thursday, there is no reason to think they will fall from this spot.

Brazil 2, Serbia 0

It is unbelievable that Brazil did not have more goals than they scored against Serbia. We knew Brazil’s attacking combinations would be unfair before the ball was kicked, but they lived through the hype in the first match. Of the 22 shots taken, nine were on target, and she finished with an xG of 2.34.

Iran and Wales fans won’t be the only ones watching Friday’s match with interest. The United States’ hopes of advancing to the knockout stage will get a nice boost with an Iran win or draw. The last thing the USA needs is for Wales to win.

After losing their opening match against Ecuador, Qatar are looking to secure their first win of the tournament against Senegal who are trying to do the same. A loss will effectively disqualify the host nation from the World Cup.

Ecuador had no problem against Qatar in the opening game of the tournament – how would that be fair against a Dutch team coming off a confidence-building win against a team many thought would be dark horses to the title?

england vs united states, 2 p.m. ET on FOX

Not only will this match have a huge impact on whether the United States can advance from Group B, but it’s big enough that it has the potential to change the world’s perception of American football.

Coach Greg Berhalter said that his team would attack, not sit still, but a draw would be a good result for the Americans.
