Black Friday and Cyber Monday have long been associated with deep discounts and door-to-door deals, but which day do you have the best sales?
Both days have become intertwined as retailers offer virtual Black Friday deals and Cyber Monday discounts are not limited to the internet. And in recent years, stores have struck deals earlier and earlier, making retail holidays practically a month-long event.
“If you’re really looking for a deal on something, you better start kind of tracking a couple of places and then see what you’re willing to do,” said Dalen Hatch, head of communications at the e-commerce Accelerator Pattern.

Are Cyber Monday and Black Friday the same?
Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, marks the traditional start of the holiday shopping season, with many retailers offering deep discounts.
Cyber Monday, the Monday following the Thanksgiving holiday, has emerged as an online alternative to Black Friday, which usually draws large crowds to brick-and-mortar stores.
However, over time, retailers blended Black Friday and Cyber Monday, offering in-store and online deals, and started rolling out discounts earlier. This year, Black Friday sales have been running since October.
“We have Black Friday, but it really expanded over the course of about several months,” said Timothy D. Malefit, a clinical professor at Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business.

Malefit said the differences between deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday aren’t huge, though some tech products may be an exception.
For many items, if you see a good deal now, don’t wait to buy, Malefit said. But it might be worth the wait if you’re shopping for electronic products.
Hatch said many shoppers wait until Cyber Monday to pick up products in part because of fear of missing out on deals altogether.
“Maybe some online retailers get the biggest discounts online on products on Black Friday, and then they continue the sale through the weekend into Cyber Monday, but it kind of reconnects with the discount,” said Hatch, noting that the move could Raise consumers’ fears of the end of the deals. .
Last year, consumers spent $10.7 billion on Cyber Monday, with toys, video games and electronics among the best-selling categories, according to Adobe Analytics.

Cyber Monday is typically associated with tech deals, Hatch said, and electronics continue to see bigger discounts for the virtual retail holiday.
“You can probably shop with pretty high confidence this Cyber Monday online and feel like you’re getting a really great deal,” said Hatch.
However, many retailers stick to the tradition of offering Doorbuster TV deals on Black Friday.

Major retailers Walmart, Target, and Amazon are already offering early Black Friday deals on electronics, home products, apparel, toys, and more.
JCPenney, Belk, and Macy’s offer some of the biggest promotions advertised on Black Friday, with an average discount of at least 53%, according to personal finance site WalletHub.
Consumer Reports recommends that consumers start shopping early, shop online rather than in stores, use websites and apps to track prices, and stick to a budget.
An estimated 166.3 million people plan to shop from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday this year, and 114.9 million consumers are expected to buy during Black Friday, according to the National Retail Federation.
