DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) — School systems across Alabama, including here in Wiregrass, were hit with active hoax shooting calls Tuesday that led to several outgoing closures.

Among the Wiregrass school systems that received reported hoax calls included Enterprise City Schools, Opp City Schools, Schools at Headland, and others. School systems along with local police authorities released statements about the incident, which you can read below.

Houston County Schools issued a statement via Facebook as well, though they said they had not received any of the alleged abuse calls.

In an email to school administrators, State Superintendent Eric McKee advised schools about deceptive “robot calls” to active local high school shooters of several Alabama school systems. Any calls should be treated as a potential emergency, McKee said, and supervisors stay in touch with local law enforcement, just as the state stays in touch with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
