Apple’s pricing strategy has always felt stable — products are more expensive than similar devices in the same class, but many feel the premium is worth paying. While other manufacturers may be discounting their products, Apple’s pricing has been flat, which makes Apple’s decision to offer discounts on the MacBook Pro a very unusual one. They may not promote it heavily on the front pages of the Apple Store, but there are options depending on what you’re looking for.
Update: Tuesday, November 29: Apple isn’t the only place where MacBook Pro laptop sales are being accelerated with holiday deals. It’s notable how many 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models have seen discounts applied over the course of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro has discounts of up to $400 depending on model and specifications; B&H is offering the 1TB 10 Core M1 Pro for $2,099 one of its more generous models. A 16-inch MacBook Pro model with similar specs can be found at Amazon for $2,299, a similar $400 discount. Oddly enough, the biggest discounts are for Space Gray models rather than Silver models; There are supposed to be more Space Gray machines in stock that need to be sold out, which indicates that the color combination of the product needs to be adjusted.
Even the latest consumer laptops, the MacBook Air M2 and its still inexplicable 13-inch variant of the MacBook Pro, have gotten multiple offers from retailers; Amazon and Best Buy are offering the top-spec MacBook Air M2 at $150 off and the 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 at $150 off, bringing it down to $1,149.
Retailers have a lot more scope when it comes to discounting – unlike Apple who does its best to maintain the charm and appeal of the MacBook platform on its website by not smearing store pages with platitudes like “discounts”. Outside of Cupertino, this is not the case. The economy isn’t in the best shape, and consumers are looking for a bargain.
And if buyers prefer to go to the source and buy from Apple, they should take some time to explore their options with Apple itself. Although careful consideration is needed regarding which MacBook you should choose, there are some attractive options in the Apple Store, depending on the balance you need between power, productivity, and price.

Here, you’ll find the same larger MacBook Pro models at discounts of up to twenty percent.
Because refurbished MacBooks generally have a 10 percent discount (all backed by the same warranty and AppleCare options as a brand-new machine.), that’s an extra discount for consumers looking for larger MacBook Pro laptops.
The mystery about Apple extends to its pricing, and browsing through the Apple Store comes across as very little out of the ordinary. But just below the surface, Tim Cook and his team are quietly offering more discounts to boost MacBook sales during the last quarter of the year. In other years, this would be the role of the new edition; With the delays in the M2 Pro and M2 Max variants of the MacBook Pro, Apple decided to plunge even more into the brave new realm of offering discounts.
If you want as much power as possible, you’ll have to wait for the M2 family. If you need a lot of performance right now, you’ll look into the M1 options, with the added enticement of those discounts. Apple made its decision. Now you have to make your own.
